The prow (ihu), stern-post (taurapa) and side panels of traditional waka taua were beautifully carved and featured designs and styles particular to each tribe.
This Maori war canoe is also beautifully carved, and inlaid with New Zealand Paua shell. It measures approximately 100cm (39") long, and stands approximately 44.5cm tall at its tallest point. It comes with 6 replica hoe (paddles), and is proudly carved in Rotorua, New Zealand.
The stern post and stand are removable, to make shipping easier and safer.
A waka taua makes a wonderful souvenir of a holiday in New Zealand and an excellent presentation piece. Fabulous trophy too!
