Pounamu or Greenstone is regarded as the sacred stone of the Gods. It is highly treasured and is believed to increase the Mana of the wearer. Pounamu taonga (treasure) is often passed on through generations and is said to hold and maintain the spirit and mana of those who previously owned or wore the taonga.
